Evaluating the English 151B Lab Program

      This year we have been using a new Reading and Writing Program for the English 151B Lab Program. I am asking all teachers of 151B classes to give me some feedback and evaluation of the program we have been using this year and the one we used last year. If you have only taught the course this year, please give me feedback for this year.

      Last year the Reading and Writing Program was based on reading one of two books for the class: Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston's Farewell to Manzanar or Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed. For the lab students wrote three paragraphs related to the book.

      This year the lab  has included a variety of exercises. Students have had exercises on the PQ3R study method, practice writing a summary, evaluating a website, preparing a works cited entry,etc. There has only been one writing assignment which was to write a summary.

      The department is currently assessing the 151B lab program. Please send me your evaluations. Which approach do you prefer? What is your reasoning?
